The History

zgift.org is the latest generation of gift giving in the evolution of Christmas gift giving in my pretty big family.

Back in '99 we started out with my sister posting manually updated wishlists and marking items as being checked off. The year after, being the computer geek that I am, I slapped together some php to do the same thing in an automated fashion. We used the same thing, slightly modified, for the following year as well.

So, in 2002 I decided to rewrite the site in an event centric fashion using HTML::Mason and Alzabo. As usual, other things came up and development was put off until the last minute.

Every year since I have brushed the cobwebs off of the svn archive and brought back the previous year's code. The tradition is to cobble together some new functionality and then put the project away for another year.
